About the Agency

Founded in 1973 by Eva and Thomas Schlueck, the agency was initially strongly related to the SF scene. Through his occupation as a translator, Thomas Schlueck was in contact with many SF-authors and illustrators who sought representation in Germany. Over time, the agency’s scope extended from SF to a wide range of themes in fiction and non-fiction. Thus, from working mostly with American agencies, publishers and authors, Thomas Schlueck went on to represent a large number of German authors as well as clients from other European countries.

Growing business lead to the transformation of the agency into a limited liability company in January 1997. On 1 May 1998 Joachim Jessen, former publisher and owner of Kabel Verlag publishing house, joined the company as Co-Managing Director. Bastian Schlueck was appointed as a further member of the board of directors in January 2005. At the beginning of 2011 the agency launched a branch office in Munich, Germany, headed by Franka Zastrow, a former agent with the Meller Agency. Furthermore, the company is working administratively with the agencies of Armin Gontermann, former managing editor of Ullstein Verlag, and Kerstin von Dobschütz, former editor at Goldmann Verlag.

The team of agents -- Thomas Schlueck, Joachim Jessen, Bastian Schlueck, Tanja Heitmann, Franka Zastrow and Julia Krischak -- represents German authors as well as agencies and publishers from around the world for the German teritorry. Support is given by a strong backoffice.

Today, Thomas Schlueck GmbH is probably the largest literary agency in the German-speaking world and represents clients such as St. Martin’s Press (USA), CROWN (USA), Simon & Schuster (UK) and Grand Central (USA), agencies such as Writers House (USA), Harvey Klinger (USA), Jane Rotrosen (USA), FOLIO (USA), MBA (UK) and RDC (Spain) and, through them, authors such as Ken Follett, Stephen Hawking, Barbara Wood, Tess Gerritsen, Suzanne Collins and Arturo Perez-Reverte. In addition to these international clients, the agency represents a large number of very successful German authors, such as Manfred Goertemaker, Andreas Eschbach, Rita Suessmuth, Katja Kessler, Ines Thorn, Thomas Thiemeyer, Dora Heldt, Sarah Lark as well as the works of the late Robert Gernhardt.

Eva Schlueck is in charge of the associated art agency, which represents well-known illustrators for cover art from all over the world. Via a large online data base, the illustration agency www.schlueckart.com is able to provide publishers with the works of well-established artists for book covers, illustrations, magazines, marketing and advertising etc.
